The cornerstone of the district’s success is the dedication to providing masterful classroom teachers. This is accomplished by ongoing efforts to recruit quality teachers and multiplying their effectiveness by providing an intentionally planned researched based professional development program. Predictably the teachers are well-equipped to annually create and deliver a rigorous differentiated curriculum based on the Texas Knowledge and Skills. Student and teacher progress is monitored and supported by common district assessments and walk-throughs. Teachers work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) that serve as job-embedded learning opportunities to inquire, research and create responses to data which leads to higher student achievement.

Every MISD teacher, PK-12th delivers an academic program with the “end in mind”, in order to produce college and/or college ready graduates. 76% of the Class of 2013 graduated College-Ready compared to the state at 56% (Texas Academic Performance Report). The Class of 2013 had an overall graduation rate of 96.8%.

Career and Technical (CTE) courses are organized into twelve clusters that help provide an educational foundation and guide students down a path to transition successfully into college or career based on their specific career interests. Additionally, within those clusters students are able to earn industry certifications while in high school in order to have a competitive edge upon graduation.
